I'm Nikki, a creative old soul who loves tea time, tip-toeing through gardens, mounds of books, swaying to records, watercolors, sunset walks with Rusty, and star-gazing with Paul. This blog carries snippets of my life with just us two (three with Rusty) - I hope it brings you happiness as you snuggle in with your cup of tea and begin reading. Enjoy, friends!

Happy Anniversary to Us!

It may not be the anniversary that you’re probably thinking of.

Yesterday actually marks one year since the first wedding that Paul and I ever shot together. Why should I even celebrate it? Because. I cannot believe it has only been one year since that day. It was a magical day for me, and probably the turning point of my whole business and passion for wedding photography. A month prior to this wedding, I was shadowing our wedding photographer, Meg Cooper (who was a big inspiration for me in the beginning) at a different wedding. I don’t know what it was about that wedding – maybe it was because it was my first, or maybe it was the atmosphere of the wedding, but after leaving that wedding I came home and told Paul that I would never want to do weddings again. I told him that although I was planning on going along with her on another wedding (and he would come with too), to not to get too comfortable with weddings because I just didn’t think it was for me.

Well, it just goes to show you how much something can change in one day. After shooting my second wedding (and Paul’s first), I fell in love with them. The people were so warm and welcoming, the location was ideal, the weather was beautiful, Paul and I had so much fun shooting together, and even though I had just met the bride and groom and their family, I loved even the littlest of connections that I made with them that day.  I knew that I had found my calling.

Although not every wedding is peaches with a lovely location, weather, etc., I have come to find out that the biggest reason that I love doing what I do is getting to know my brides and grooms. There is a whole different feeling on the wedding day itself when I show up anxious and excited to shoot a friend’s wedding. I’m more attached to these people and it really does show through our images.

Anyways, I’m keeping this short because I have another lovely wedding to share with you this week and I need to get working on it. Also, I know I’ve slacked on blogging lately but I promise that once wedding season is done I will be updating much more often. I’m leaving you with some of my favorite images from our first wedding together and I am so proud of both of us for how far we’ve come in just a year. I’d also like to thank all of my lovely brides and grooms for believing in me when I first began this journey – I am so, so, so grateful for all of you. :)
