I'm Nikki, a creative old soul who loves tea time, tip-toeing through gardens, mounds of books, swaying to records, watercolors, sunset walks with our three yorkies, and star-gazing with Paul. This blog carries snippets of my life with just us two (five with Rusty, Lucy, & Ethel) - I hope it brings you happiness as you snuggle in with something warm and delicious and begin reading. Happy Monday

Remember last week when I complained about winter and how long it was and how I needed to spit sunflower seeds in order to remain happy? Well, that is no longer the case (at least for now).

It has been a typical Monday here in the Tran household. I follow a predictable routine every day. Rusty and I wake up around 7:45am each day. Sometimes he has to wake me up and other times I have to wake him up. Waking him up is probably the most fun part of our morning (I know, I have no life). When Rusty is tired he can melt anybody’s heart. He is so cuddly, warm, and peaceful – I wish he were like that all day! Actually, right now he is sleeping so I’m fortunate enough that he is once again cuddly, warm, and peaceful. Anyways. To wake him up I take his arms and push them up so he can have his biiiiiig morning stretch. When he does this he likes to stretch over my body so when he’s done stretching he can lay right back down in my lap or on my arm. Spoiled. :) Once we are awake and ready to take on the day, we head on downstairs. While Rusty is outside enjoying the fresh air I roam the house opening curtains and blinds, trying to help my house wake up as well. I brush my teeth, wash my face, and then get Rusty his breakfast and fresh water while my toast is heating up in the toaster. When Rusty comes in we both are able to enjoy our breakfast together. After his long stroll outside and his hearty meal, Rusty decides it’s time to go back to bed. This is when I get my work done. After a couple hours my little furball wakes up, gives a big stretch, and then heads on downstairs to ring that blasted bell so he can go outside.

When he went outside today, he immediately started barking. Usually Rusty barks all the time outside – we don’t know why but we like to think he’s letting people know he’s our watchdog. However, today he was barking right outside the door and looking up into the air. I went outside and saw, and heard, a miracle. BIRDS!!!! Holy moly! I rushed to grab my camera and managed to get a few of the lovelies hanging out in our crab apple tree just outside my kitchen window. It was glorious listening to those beautiful chirps. If Paul hadn’t winterized our windows I would have had them open all day long!! Who needs Frank and Dean when you’ve got birds singing instead?? And that is why I call this a Happy Monday. :)

I caught this little guy in midair! There were about 10 total in the tree.

There’s a nest! I’m so excited to see little babies this spring! Happy, happy days are here. :)
