I'm Nikki, a creative old soul who loves tea time, tip-toeing through gardens, mounds of books, swaying to records, watercolors, sunset walks with our three yorkies, and star-gazing with Paul. This blog carries snippets of my life with just us two (five with Rusty, Lucy, & Ethel) - I hope it brings you happiness as you snuggle in with something warm and delicious and begin reading. Enjoy, friends!

Playing Catch Up & Our California Trip

Hello my dearest friends!! My goodness, it’s been awhile, hasn’t it? Have you gotten whiplash from all the back and forth posting and then no posting and then posting on the blog?? I don’t blame you. :) But now it’s time to play catch up!! It’s already the end of November!!! So tonight, I thought I’d share with you one of our days of our California trip! :) Now that it’s snowing and snowblowers can be heard from down the street, wouldn’t you like to look at the sun and beach? (Personally I love this kind of weather but I’ll enjoy the beach photos anyways. :))

As I said in my last post, one of the reasons we went to California was to visit my grandparents. They’ve been going down to San Diego during the winter for as long as I can remember and I’ve only visited them once. Clearly it was time to go again, with Paul. :) Nana and Gramps live in a cute little trailer that’s close to the trolley station and close to the beach (essentials for living in CA). On our first day there they took us to Point Loma, Cabrillo National Monument (dedicated to the arrival of Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo at San Diego Bay in 1542) – they take everyone there who visits them so naturally, that was where we had to go. :) And I’m so glad we did!! The weather was gorgeous and the sunset was breathtaking. First they took us around the Visitors Center, showed us the lookout point towards the bay (you could see Mexico from where we were!), and then we drove towards the dwindling sunlight. We parked, Nana stayed cocooned in the car (for a Minnesota native she is a freeze baby ;)), and us three photographers clicked away until the sun officially went down (my grandpa has always had a camera in his hand and I’m sure that’s where I get it from :)). It was the prefect start to a wonderful trip and I’m so glad we were able to enjoy parts of it with my two wonderful grandparents. So, enjoy some snippets from Point Loma, friends! More of our trip will be coming soon (including DISNEYLAND!!!) xoxoxo

This might sound weird, but I thoroughly enjoyed taking photos of cacti. They’re beautiful!

Aren’t they adorable?! Nana was FREEZING already.

Lovely.

Cabrillo National Monument.

The sky was absolutely dreamy. Like the opening credits to a Dreamworks movie! :)

:) :)

The Old Point Loma Lighthouse.

A closeup of the Cabrillo Monument. Isn’t it gorgeous?!

And then we found the sun. :)

See? Dreamworks clouds!!

We need cacti in Minnesota.

Freeze baby. :)

Ahh! The colors!!

The pros. :)

And there it goes. Dreamy.

On our way back out of the park, I wanted to stop at the Fort Rosecrans Cemetery – cemeteries are so beautiful and serene.

Endless rows – so humbling.

  1. You’re all so stinkin cute! I can’t wait to see pictures of our beloved Disney. :) :)
