I'm Nikki, a creative old soul who loves tea time, tip-toeing through gardens, mounds of books, swaying to records, watercolors, sunset walks with our three yorkies, and star-gazing with Paul. This blog carries snippets of my life with just us two (five with Rusty, Lucy, & Ethel) - I hope it brings you happiness as you snuggle in with something warm and delicious and begin reading. Enjoy, friends!

Sweethearts Since 1955

It was February 25th, 1955. They met the night of the Minnesota Boys State High School Hockey Tournament. Grandpa was on leave in the Air Force and Nana was 16 years old. Nana had written her number in Grandpa’s “Little (Red) Book” and the next night Gramps brought her home from the hockey game. That night Nana told Great-Gramma Dino that she had met the guy she was going to marry. Gramps was home for 30 days during his leave and then left again. They wrote letters back and forth while Gramps was away, and on July 1st, 1955 they became engaged.

Gramps left again and they continued writing letters back and forth until he was officially home, and on April 14th, 1956, they were married in St. Paul. Two years later, my lovely mother was born, then my uncle, and then my other uncle. Throughout the years they have gained six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and have given so much love to each and every one of us. Although I tell their story in a very simple way, the story is very dear to them and to all of us. Eventually they will move out away from their lake and travel more so I am thankful that they allowed me to photograph them in their everyday lives so we can keep them as memories. Enjoy the photos of my wonderful grandparents – we really couldn’t ask for a better Nana and Gramps.

Love you both more – Nicolinus

I love that my grandpa keeps this button with him at all times.
