I'm Nikki, a creative old soul who loves tea time, tip-toeing through gardens, mounds of books, swaying to records, watercolors, sunset walks with our three yorkies, and star-gazing with Paul. This blog carries snippets of my life with just us two (five with Rusty, Lucy, & Ethel) - I hope it brings you happiness as you snuggle in with something warm and delicious and begin reading. Enjoy, friends!

Tea Time Talk | Blog Updates

Hello dear friends! ‘Tis time for another Tea Time Talk!!

Can I be honest? I already LOVE Tea Time with you (I’m thinking of just calling it Tea Time – one extra word can be so tiring to add). There’s no pressure to write something unbelievably extraordinary or astounding – it’s just chatting with friends, a chance to update you on random things in my life. :)

Alright, do you have your tea? Coffee? Perhaps a slice of toast? Are you snuggled in your cozy chair? (Or if you’re in an uncomfortable desk chair I’m hoping you can imagine it as your “good chair” that’s waiting for you at home.) Lovely. Let’s begin, shall we?

TECGeneral Border

I’ve had this blog for about 3 1/2 years, correct? Do you remember what it used to look like, those of you who have been with me on this journey since the beginning of time?? It was dreadful. No design concept, there was music playing (to be fair it was a really good song – go ahead, listen to it), and the colors were like an olive green, brown, and some sort of orange. I know!! Awful! Although the colors and design have changed immensely since then (and the music has been omitted – I now at least give you the option if you’d like to hear what I want you to hear), I still wasn’t really putting the necessary “reader experience” into my blog. I had no idea that there was more to a blog than just writing, adding photos, and having a slideshow at the top of the page. Who knew there were tons of widgets to access (but one must access with caution – one does not want too many widgets for fear of scaring readers away) and other fancy ways to engage with your reader?? Not this girl. So anyways, what have I done to enhance this toddler-aged blog?

Take a look at my sidebar on the right. >>>

I have never had a sidebar until about a month ago, and perhaps some of you have already noticed that (hurray to you!! Cheers with our teacups and coffee mugs!) I always thought sidebars looked tacky and unnecessary. My goodness, how silly was I?? I absolutely love my sidebar!! There’s so much to view (but hopefully not too much for fear of driving you away with too much madness!) and I hope that it actually makes time here on the blog not seem like an endless drone of just post after post. There’s Instagram photos (you can follow me here if you’d like, dear friend), links to my Photoshop actions as well as my Youtube editing tutorials; there’s a search bar in case you’re looking for something in particular; there’s a “Subscribe by Email” button that allows you to receive updates in your email when I’ve posted a new blog post, as well as a Bloglovin’ button that allows you to follow me on Bloglovin’ (I just discovered it – it’s like Pinterest for blogging!! It’s wonderful – and to be honest, I spent an embarrassing amount of time on there yesterday. There’s just so much to see, a whole new blogging world to explore!!), and of course there’s the blog archives. Those are useful especially if you’re like me and like to skip through blogger’s most popular blogging months (the numbers next to each month stand for how many posts were written during that month.) On my favorite bloggers page I like to start from the beginning and work my way up (if you start at my beginning, be kind. I was such a newbie at all of this. :))

Now take a look at the top of my page. ^^^

Not too much has been updated, but I did get rid of my Google+ icon (on the right side of my top menu) and added my Youtube channel’s icon. Then, if you scroll down from the top, you’ll notice that the menu stays with you as you scroll!! Eureka! :) I did a little updating with my blog (I use Prophoto for those of you that are curious – it’s perfect for photographers or other bloggers that use images a lot, or for someone who likes a lot of control over your design) which allowed that change to the menu, as well as to my comment section. Now you can reply to other people’s comments, there’s indentation for each comment – it’s glorious!

Eventually I’ll be changing my “Meet Nikki” page to match with the content of this blog. As you may have noticed, it’s made a minor shift towards things other than photography and I just love it. I even changed the mini blurb about me at the top of the page next to my photo (which will also be updated soon! Hurray!!) and I even changed my logo at the top! Instead of it saying Nikki Tran Photography, it just says Nikki Tran (with a little watercolor lavendar I painted :)).

I know these things don’t seem like rocket science or a major discovery, but it all makes me love my blog so much more. It actually feels like my blog now. It’s kind of like an online diary/scrapbook (with people’s weddings mixed into it :)). Soon I’ll even be having a guest blogger – I listened to your poll and I can’t wait to share a lovely homemaking blog post in the near future – you’ll love it. :)

Alrighty friends, the day is moving on and I must move on with it. Until next time! Cheers to Friday and to you, friends! :) xoxoxo
