I'm Nikki, a creative old soul who loves tea time, tip-toeing through gardens, mounds of books, swaying to records, watercolors, sunset walks with our three yorkies, and star-gazing with Paul. This blog carries snippets of my life with just us two (five with Rusty, Lucy, & Ethel) - I hope it brings you happiness as you snuggle in with something warm and delicious and begin reading. Enjoy, friends!

Adventures With the Nephew

I am so beyond lucky to have such amazing nephews in my life. I honestly can’t imagine what life was like before them. I know a lot of people say you don’t know what unconditional love is until you have kids, but I’m pretty sure I already know ever since my first nephew was born.

Last weekend when we were visiting my parents for Father’s Day, my little nephew Adam asked me when he could come over. So I said, “Well, when do you want to come over?” He told me that Thursday would work just fine. Just so you know, we have this conversation more times than I can count. Because I live so far away he’s only been to my house a handful of times, so I wasn’t expecting this to turn into a legit conversation where he ended up seriously asking his mom (my sister) if he could spend the night.

Fast forward a few days and I was in my car, driving in absolute horrid weather, on my way to pick up Adam for his first-time-by-himself-sleepover-at-NeeNee’s. I have been looking forward to this day  for forever. I couldn’t wait until one of my nephews were old enough so they could come over and spend the night at NeeNee’s (don’t you just love my nickname? :)) and have the most amazing time so they couldn’t wait to come back over again. I had so many things I wanted to do with Adam that I wasn’t sure if we’d get to them all; having a bonfire, getting ice-cream and walking to the park, toe-dipping in the lake, baking cookies, making a fort, visiting the gardens, snuggling in our pjs while watching the best Disney movies, having a tea party, and the list goes on. I felt like Buddy the Elf when he has a list of things he wants to do with his dad…

Needless to say, we’ve had a lovely time together, from him running down the hallway when I arrived screaming “NeeNee!!!” to waking up and having a lovely breakfast with him & Uncle Paul (he’s going home today so there is always room for more adventures :)). And because I would kick myself if I didn’t, I decided to document our first sleepover together and I brought my camera everywhere we went. And since our time together is still not finished, don’t be surprised if you see another post about this wonderful day sometime next week. :) Enjoy some snippets, friends!!

We’re going on an adventure!! (This was taken before the vehicle was turned on – no worries. :))

The sun was finally coming out so we had to dip our toes in the water.

Love his excited face!

Favorite. :)

We dined, lakeside style. Him – fish & chips with apple juice. NeeNee – clam chowder with water.

Adam took this photo – I’m so proud. I didn’t have to help him at all. :)

Another one of Adam’s. :)

Then we visited one of the lovely nurseries by our house (I mention them here).

They have chickens & roosters!!

He has good eyes – I never knew they had a dispenser to pay for food to feed the animals! Thank goodness I had an abundance of quarters.

These animals are too smart. As soon as they saw Adam go for the dispenser they swarmed him waiting for their food. :)

Ahh! Donkeys!!

Look at them all!! He’s the new chicken/rooster whisperer.

Smile, girl. :)

We were in search of another beautiful planter…

…he liked this one (I didn’t like the price tag).

He has such a good time wherever he goes.

Then we arrived home to play with RUSTY!!!!

And then Adam wanted to have a tea party. Except he would drink cocoa. So we had a tea/cocoa party. A teaco party (that’s Adam’s photo again :)).

Seriously! I’m too impressed with him. Another one of Adam’s photos with no help (obviously) from NeeNee. :)

This may look like child labor but I swear it’s not. He had his apron on from baking cookies earlier and then told me he wanted to clean (he wouldn’t accept “no” for an answer – apparently he saw too many things in my house that needed to be cleaned…:)).

I must say, my fireplace has never looked so good. Also, he used up almost an entire roll of paper towels. On the fireplace and my coffee table. He’s good.

Pizza & Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 with Uncle Paul!! :)

And today we shall see what new adventures are in store for us…:) Happy Friday, friends!! xoxo
